Rúben Carvalho
Ruben Lopes Carvalho is a PhD student in the Doctoral Program in Neurosciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) and a Researcher at the Center for Translational Research in Health and Medical Biotechnology (TBIO). He completed his BSc in Biology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and his MSc in Neurobiology at FMUP, where he received the award for Best Master’s Thesis.
Before starting his PhD, Ruben spent one year in Prague working in a neuroimmunology research group, studying immune–neural interactions. This experience consolidated his interest in how immune signaling shapes neuronal function and contributes to pathological network states.
His doctoral research broadly explores electrophysiology, brain network organization, and neurodevelopmental aspects of pediatric epilepsy. His wider scientific interests include neurobiology, neuroimmunology, neuronal circuit plasticity, and the mechanisms that underlie brain dysfunction across development and disease.
