Simão Ferreira

PhD Student

Simão Ferreira is a PhD Candidate in Health Data Science at FMUP. With a passion for translational science applications, his research focuses on highlighting data-driven solutions to provide adequate informed decisions.  

Simão received his Occupational Therapy degree and master’s degree in Mental Health at the Porto School of Health. After publishing his thesis in a top 10 % journal, Social Science and Medicine alongside his interest in technology and physiological data collection he was granted a fellowship at the Porto School of Health and a place in the Health Data Science Ph.D. program at the Faculty of Medicine. 

During his fellowship, Simão collaborated with several researchers, being a co-first-author in two papers in the areas of Mental Health and Intelligent Systems, a co-author in a paper on Language Development, and waiting for several publications to be finished. His contributions during the fellowship allowed him to connect and collaborate with large enterprises and international partners from several companies and
universities, where he provided important leadership skills and collaboration to support several projects, national and international. In his short career, he published 4 papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented 2 national and 8 international communications on the topics of mental health, protocol design, data science, machine learning, Ethical data management and explainable AI.  

He is also part of the COST action NET4AGE-FRIENDLY CA19136.
