Joana Santos
Joana Carvalho dos Santos is currently, an adjunct Professor of the Environmental Health Department from the School of Health of Polytechnic University of Porto (ESS|P.Porto) and is the coordinator of the master’s degree on Safety and Hygiene in Organizations. She is a researcher at the Center for Translational Health and Medical Biotechnology Research, ESS|P.Porto and at the Biomechanics and Health Unit of Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (INEGI/LAETA). In 2015 she received her PhD in Occupational Health and Safety from the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto (Cum Laude distinction), focused on understanding the development of the state of Fatigue (including mental fatigue) in real work conditions (assembly work). She has been developing scientific research in the domains of Ergonomics and Human factors, Occupational fatigue, Occupational Health and Safety and Hygiene. Currently she is particularly interested in the human-robot collaboration (HRC) workplaces risk management and health outcomes. She has been principal investigator of and team member of research projects (e.g. ActionSAFE (FCT fund), ASA (Contract fund), NeoNoise, PELE project, COBOSHe, etc.), and published papers in international peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and in international conference proceedings. Over the years, her research has been awarded, and recently (2023) her scientific merit was publicly recognized by the Polytechnic University of Porto through PAPRE program. She also supervised and co-supervised several MSc and PhD Thesis.
