Clara Pereira

Clara Isabel Ferreira Pereira graduated in Applied Biology (2003) and completed a PhD degree in Biology (2008) at Universidade do Minho. She conducted postdoctoral studies at the Medical Research Council (MRC), Leicester, UK, in collaboration with Faculty of Pharmacy, Universidade do Porto. She later held an assistant researcher position (FCT investigator) at IBMC/I3S. Using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiaeas a model organism to study cellular signalling and as a toll for drug discovery, Clara Pereira has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and holds two international patents. She has supervised/co-supervised 4 PhD and 9 MSc dissertation(s) and served as Principal Investigator in 3 projects and as a team member in 8 others. Currently, she is an Adjunct professor at the Escola Superior de Saúde do Politécnico do Porto, where she teaches in the areas of Microbiology and Medicinal Biotechnology. Her current interests include antifungal resistance and the dinamics of fungi within microbial communities and their relevance to human health.
