Prof. Daniel Filipe Borges from the Clinical Neurophysiology Technology (ATC) and researcher at the Center for Translational Health and Medical Biotechnology Research (TBIO) of ESS | P.PORTO, as a member of the research team from the Coimbra School of Health Technology, saw the project titled ‘The Sound of Silence’ awarded an honorable mention at the Award Ceremony held at the Pavilion of Knowledge – Ciência Viva, in Lisbon, in November 2023.
The mentioned project was an integral part of a more extensive research, recently published in the prestigious Epileptic Disorders – the educational journal of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) – titled: “The sound of silence: Quantification of typical absence seizures by sonifying EEG signals from a custom-built wearable device” by the American publisher Wiley.
The Angelini University Award! is an initiative promoted by Angelini Pharma (since 2010 with 720 teams; 2946 participants and 510 projects) aimed at young people attending higher education in Portugal in the field of Health. The objective of the contest is to foster projects in the health area with practical applicability that allow generating innovation and promoting young entrepreneurship.
The 14th edition of the Angelini University Award! 2022/2023 had as its motto: Epilepsy? Solutions for better disease management, + Literacy and better care, – Stigma. This edition had 43 projects submitted to the contest, involving 140 university students, 31 teachers, 24 experts, and 22 universities.
