Bela Barros

Post-doctoral researcher

Bela Barros is a Post-Doctoral Researcher within the scope of the project "Digital intervention tool e2-ducass: e2-ducass digital tool intervention: bringing the health literacy tovulnerable populations for promoting physical activity, healthy diet patterns and mental andcardiovascular health (ERA4HE/0003/2023)", with financing support from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
She holds a Ph.D. in Sustainable Chemistry (2024) from the University of Porto, the University of Aveiro, and NOVA School of Science and Technology, supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. Her doctoral research, “Forest Fire Emissions: Exposure Data and Potential Health Risks for Firefighters and the General Population,” focused on environmental exposure and health impacts (https://doi.org/10.54499/PCIF/SSO/0017/2018) . She also holds a Master’s in Legal Medicine (2019) and a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Sciences (2017).
Her research experience includes molecular oncology at IPO-Porto and environmental health at REQUIMTE-LAQV-ISEP, where she worked on the BioFirEx project. Bela has authored over ten scientific papers, six book chapters, and three conference proceedings (scopus index of 7), earning multiple awards for her Q1 high impact publications. She has served as a peer reviewer for several journals and actively participates in mentoring and scientific outreach.
She is a working group member of the COST Actions INFLAMomx (CA24166) and NERO (CA22164). Beyond academia, she volunteered as a paramedic with the Portuguese Red Cross (2017–2020) and served on the Board of the National Association of Biomedical Sciences (2020–2022).
Her main research interests include biomonitoring, cardiovascular and environmental health, occupational health, health literacy, public health, and oncology.
