Sleep stage detection: a clinical validation study of a custom-built
single-channel in-ear EEG sensor
Professor Daniel Borges Presents at the Congresso Sociedade Portuguesa de Neurologia 2024
We are proud to announce that Professor Daniel Borges recently presented his latest research at the prestigious Congresso Sociedade Portuguesa de Neurologia 2024. His lecture, titled “Sleep Stage Detection: A Clinical Validation Study of a Custom-Built Single-Channel In-Ear EEG Sensor,” highlighted an innovative approach to sleep analysis. This study, conducted in collaboration with colleagues from leading institutions, aimed to clinically validate the effectiveness of a novel, single-channel in-ear EEG sensor for reliable sleep classification, offering an alternative to the traditional, more complex polysomnography (PSG) method.
This study tested a custom in-ear EEG sensor that makes it easier to monitor sleep stages compared to the traditional, complex setup known as polysomnography (PSG). Results showed that the in-ear sensor closely matched PSG in tracking important sleep metrics, making it a promising tool for future sleep studies and potentially for use at home.
